- Sitting in the conservatory with a big whisky, looking out at the star-spangled sky, I wondered what the hell had occurred this evening. Had my mum really been coming on to me? Surely not! It was obviously some private joke of hers. But... that wasn't the sort of thing that one joked about was it? She'd practically accused me of chatting up my aunt and then she'd told me that she and I could have had a lot of fun if we weren't mother and son. What did that mean for God's sake?
- I went to bed disturbed and tossed restlessly for hours before sleep came. When it did I dreamed of being chased through the house by a big, fleshy woman who held her arms out to me and shouted, 'it doesn't matter if it's illegal, Charlie!'
